This year I will be teaching and learning in a Innovative Learning Environment with year 7 and 8 students, in 'Learning Space Two'. I will be working alongside my MDTA mentor, Robyn Anderson, as well as Kiri Kirkpatrick, our Associate Principal. Over the past few days Robyn, Kiri and I have been collaboratively planning for Term One. I really enjoy being a part of a collaborative team, as I get to play an active role in the planning and setting up of LS2. It is also great that I get to be in a team with two experienced teachers. With our planning, class site and digital resources underway, I am feeling positive about the term to come. Bring on day one!

Connnecting with the MDTA and Community
Over the past few days the MDTA team has been connecting with each other, the community and the MDTA programme. It all kicked off on Monday 18 January, with a leisurely 14km stroll around the Tamaki community. Led by MDTA head honchos Dorothy, Anne and Fiona, we visited each of the schools in the Manaiakalani cluster and learnt about the community that we have become a part of. Visiting the schools and local attractions was a neat experience as it gave us an understanding of the community our learners come from. It was also a great way to get to know the my fellow MDTA BTs and leaders. Nothing joins people together quite like hiking up Mt Wellington and walking 14 km!
Tuesday was about connecting to the post graduate element of the MDTA programme. We were introduced to the lecturers who will be with us throughout our post graduate studies. They talked us through the course outlines, key elements for success in our studies and the process of graduating with an Honours degree. Anne and Dorothy also gave us some pearls of wisdom on how to make it out of the MDTA programme, alive and smiling!
Hearing about all the requirements was quite daunting at first, but it was very reassuring to know that we have the support from Dorothy, Anne, Fiona and the lecturers at University. Their apparent enthusiasm and dedication towards the MDTA programme is quite infectious! Knowing that I am on this journey with my fellow MDTA BTs also puts my mind at ease, as we can work collaboratively in our studies, share our teaching experiences and grow together.
So with a mix of excitement, curiosity and nervousness, I am ready to hit the ground running and begin my MDTA journey!
